Following the recent downpour, all public elementary schools in the Akwadum Community of the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region have been shuttered.
According to the municipal authorities, they are keeping an eye on the situation and will make sure that everything returns to normal before the students return to class.
When speaking to the media about the situation in Koforidua, the chief executive of the New Juaben North Municipality, Madam Comfort Asante, made this information public.
She claims that 203 homes in the Municipality have entirely fallen, and one death has been reported in Effiduase.
She claimed that to ease the suffering of the victims, the assembly had mobilized some relief supplies, which would shortly be provided.
Putting that aside, she said that the Assembly has increased the supply of five thousand litre poly tanks filled with potable water to the Akwadum Community and disinfected all of the town’s dug-out wells to make them safe for consumption.
Therefore, Madam Comfort Asante has pleaded with the general public, governmental bodies, and NGOs to assist the Assembly in rallying support for the victims.
