Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Assembly’s Information Officer, Agyenim Boateng (Elder Boat), has chastised the Bibiani branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) for failure to comply with the new transit fares ordered by Road Transport Operators.
The government of Ghana and other institutions called on the Road Transport Operators to reduce lorry fares following the reduction of fuel prices in the country.
On this call, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) reduced transport fares to 15.3% on Friday, December 16, 2022, which was to take effect on Monday, 19th December, 2022.
Speaking with Okyeame Amanebo on Okyeame Radio, he stressed that the Municipal Assembly would meet the transport unions to deliberate on how the fare should be regulated.
He added that transport unions quickly increase fares whenever there’s a hike in fuel prices but become sluggish in reducing fares whenever fuel prices are decreased.
However, the transport fares remain unchanged in Sefwi Wiawso Municipality and Bia West District of the Western North region.
