Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhy has confirmed Egypt’s intentions of hosting both the World Cup and the 2036 Olympic games.
News has emerged that Egypt will be involved in another joint bid for hosting the 2030 World Cup with Saudi Arabia and Greece.
According to The Times, the bid is expected to be announced in the future, with Saudi Arabia being the ‘leading partner’, meaning they would support and contribute to infrastructure costs in Egypt and Greece.

Asked about the rumours, Sobhy replied: “We are thinking of organizing the 2030 World Cup 2030 or the 2034 version.
“We are now in a study phase, but there will certainly be partnership and cooperation, and it is not important what our percentage will be of the hosting rights.
“The principle of applying for the organization of the 2030 World Cup exists, but we are currently in the study phase.
“We were also given the green light from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to apply to host the 2036 Olympics.
“Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, was fascinated by Egypt during his visit to it and Africa is the only continent that has not organized the Olympics so far.
“All Africa supports Egypt in its request to organize the 2036 Olympics.
“Usually, when the countries submit their bids, they say they will implement projects because they still have 14 years before the start of the tournament, on the other hand, Egypt has already implemented those projects,”
On whether Egypt will apply to organize the 2025 AFCON after Guinea’s withdrawal, he replied, “We must help our brothers in Africa,”
“We organized the 2006 and 2019 tournaments and let’s see who will come forward to help the CAF. If they need our help, we will support them,”
“But now we want to help African countries organize and contribute to the success of Africa,” he added.
