The President of Wassa Hemaa Foundation, Hon. Lawyer Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi, in collaboration with a US NGO, has initiated the construction of a multipurpose basketball court in Huni-Valley, a community in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of Western Region.
The construction firm Applause Multimedia reported on site to commence construction on 26ᵗʰ September 2022 and is expected to be completed within six weeks at an estimated cost of Gh¢70,000 jointly funded by the NGO and Wassa Hemaa Foundation.
The project like many other sports facilities, when completed will not only serve as a leisure facility for the youth, especially the schools in the catchment area but will importantly serve as a place where talents are discovered and trained for the holistic development of the youth in the lesser-known sports of Basketball and Volleyball.
Hon. lawyer Mrs Barbara Oteng-Gyasi has shown great interest in the development of sports within the Municipality both during her tenure as a Legislator and even beyond.
She made a Five Thousand Ghana Ghana Cedis (Gh¢5,000.00) cash donation towards the construction of Himan community park in 2020, donated Two Thousand Ghana Cedis (Gh¢2,000.00), footballs and branded jerseys to Aboso Soccer Reform Academy, and donated branded jerseys.
She also supported electoral areas with footballs between 2017 to 2020, supported various Community football Gala Competitions across the Municipality and more significantly recently commissioned the first-ever Astroturf pitch in the history of the Municipality, Aboso Astroturf.
The wo Astroturf projects initiated through her lobbying skills are Aboso AstroTurf by CODA and Prestea Stadium Astroturf being funded by GNPC, which is ongoing and expected to be completed by the end of the year.
These are all indications of a fervent desire to support the development of the youth with special talents in various sporting disciplines.
