Former CAF Champions League winners and South Africa Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, head coach Rulani Mokwena popularly referred to as ‘Mourinho’ say it will be a total failure for the Brazilians should they fail to win this year’s CAF Champions League.
Mokoena, in an interview with the press, revealed that Sundowns main objective for the season is to win the competition.
He further revealed that he has top-quality players to beat off competition from any club, especially the North Africans.
He stressed that winning the South Africa DSTV Premier League will be a bonus to their objectives this season as the club is not too anxious about winning the domestic title.
The Brasilians will rely on players like Peter Shalulile, who is the leading goal scorer in the PSL with six goals, experienced national team Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and former Uganda National team Goalkeeper and Captain Dennis Onyango.
Others include Ethiopian international left winger Abubeker Nasser, Marcello Allende, Uruguay international Gaston Sirino and the likes to win this year’s competition.
The Brazilians will on Saturday kick off their CAF Champions League campaign as they play as guests against four times Seychelles Island Champions La Passe FC at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Johannesburg in the first leg of their CAF Champions League tie.
La Passe FC has adopted Loftus stadium which is also the home venue for the Brasilians, as their temporary home venue, as no stadium in the Island country passes the requirements of CAF to host international matches.
Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Zamalek in the final to win their first and only CAF Champions League title and qualified as the CAF representative at the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup in Japan, their first appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup.
