14 months after first expressing their worries, residents are still grumbling about how awful the Uwasi-Fumbisi road is.
It may be recalled that in a media report, the people and the Assembly Member for Uwasi remarked about the subpar work done by Samba Construction Limited, a business allegedly owned by Mohammed Adam Bantima Samba, the Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP.
The Presiding Member of the Builsa South District Assembly, John Apaabey, indicated that the condition of the roads is in an even worse situation in a recent appearance on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.
“The issue has been that Samba Constructions, [owned by] the Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, is the contractor for that specific Fumbisi-Uwasi road. Party leaders have taken contracts, making it impossible for others like the DCE to communicate with them when they are unable to work,”
“Although he [the DCE, Daniel Kwame Gariba] is assuring that he is making follow-ups, he does not want to provide deadlines because these are the major challenges,” he said.
Earlier, the Assemblyman for Uwasi, George Asuyok, expressed disappointment in the inability of the government to facilitate the construction of the road.
“Our leaders must bow their heads in shame. Even before the construction of the road, the people were far better, we would get a car to Uwasi even in the rainy season, but now you cannot even ride or get access to Uwasi,”
Despite claims by Daniel Kwame Gariba, the 2020 NPP Parliamentary Candidate who serves as the DCE, that the government is interested in finishing the roads, Mr Asuyok has no faith that the road will be built any time soon.
