Striker Prince Opoku bagged an early goal for Basake Holy Stars as they defeated West Africa Football Academy at Crosby Awuah Memorial Park in Aiyinase.
The only goal on Sunday afternoon was enough for the home side to return to winning ways after six games without a win.
Basake Holy Stars were rewarded for their early efforts in the 2nd minute when striker Prince Opoku converted a spot kick to give his side the lead.
In the 20th minute, Emmanuel Agyei took on three players from WAFA, but his 19 yards long-range shot was denied by Goalkeeper Anthony Brebo at the top corner of the goal pole.

Later in the game, with the effort of birthday boy Enis Boadi, Basake Holy Stars got a few opportunities to make it two or more, however, those chances were wasteful.
After recess, Enis Boadi kept his composure in the heart of the field with an excellent display, winning 50-50 balls for the home team and being very supportive of his defence. His exceptional performance got him the man of the match award.
Holy Stars got some great chances to double the lead, but they squandered the opportunities in the second half.
WAFA, however, got into their stride later in the game, pinning Basake Holy Stars at the back with all manner of attacks but failed to score.
Basake Holy Stars has moved from the relegation Zone to 10th position after this win.
Coach Dominic Nketiah’s side will take on Soccer Intellectuals on matchday 20 in Ajumako on Sunday, March 26, 2023.
