The residents of Sefwi Subiri in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western north region, have staged a gigantic demonstration against the activities of illegal mining in the community.
Speaking in an interview with the press, they stated that they won’t be hesitated to clash anyone who plans to do illegal mining in the community, especially in the River Subiri.
“This is our only source of water. We will clash anyone who tries to do galamsey here,” they vowed.
A committee chairman, Mr. Kofi Yesu, seized the opportunity to appeal to the President, H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to come to their aid to ensure the activities of the illegal mining cease.
“We are on our kneels appealing to H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to come to our to ensure the activities of the unlawful cease.
Mr. Kwasi Kwakye, a leader of the demonstrators, suggested that they have made up their minds to fight till their last drop anyone, be it government official, or any who comes to the community to do illegal mining.
“We are ready to deal with them if today’s demonstration doesn’t yield results. We have taken practical measures to ensure they don’t get access to do their evil activities here in the river,” he added.
