A young boy believed to be in his early 20’s is reported dead at Agona Amenfi in the Amenfi Central District of the Western Region.
Known as Suarez by his peers, he depends on Galamsay to fend for himself. He was reported to have gone to work yesterday with his usual group who work in the illegal small-scale mining (Galamsay) in the area.
The incident occurred in the late hours of Monday, October 31, when the deceased was reportedly swimming in a pit dug by the Galamsayers. He was trapped in the water by heavy mud beneath the bottom of the pit.
This has added up to the high toll of youth who have lost their lives as a result of their engagement in Galamsay.
With the rate of the current economic hardship in the country currently, the youth has resorted to all manners of activities to fend for themselves.
The fight against Galamsay by the government is shaky as the youth continue the be engaging in the act.
The government, however, was informed to tighten the fight against illegal mining as it continues to claim lives.
